Police Chief

TITLE: Police Chief
LOCATION: White Bridge Road Campus
RATE OF PAY: $50,046 - $62,557 annual salary depending on experience
DEPARTMENT: Campus Safety

POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs campus wide comprehensive law enforcement, general security services, emergency preparedness services and parking enforcement in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations in order to protect property, facilities, citizens, staff, and students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for all officers and supervisors within the Police and Security departments.
Maintains compliance with Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.), Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) & NSCC policies, rules & regulations.
Establishes departmental goals, long-range plans, objectives, policies, directives, regulations and procedures.
Maintains General Orders.
Responsible for approving all reports and submitting monthly reports to the TBI for our mandatory TIBRS records.
Responds and takes the lead in atypical situations and emergencies.
In charge of training activities and in-service presentations for Police Officers, Security Guards and the campus population.
Observes and reports suspected crimes, accidents, or activities of a questionable/suspicious nature.
Discourages unlawful activities.
Supervises the processing of all citations for traffic & parking violations.
Supervises the maintenance of the Decal & Ticket database.
Reports accidents involving persons or property, reporting probably cause of accidents, pursuing appropriate course of action and informing proper authorities as required.
Cooperates with law enforcement officials and jurisdictions and testifies in court or legal proceedings as required.
Supervises the maintenance and use of security equipment and directs a program for vehicle maintenance and mileage reports.
Ensure compliance with all currently published Safety & Security Milestones from Tennessee Board of Regents.
Performs other work as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Psychology or related field.
Certification by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.)
Completion of FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) Introductory Courses IS-700 and IS-800 within twelve (12) months of hire
3 years supervisory experience
7 years police experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Psychology or related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of campus policies, city, county and state laws
Knowledge of general principles and practices of law enforcement supervision
Knowledge of campus and local area provisions for emergency situations
Ability to ascertain facts through personal contact and observation and to determine proper course of action
Ability to perform duties firmly, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others
Ability to plan and direct the work of others
Use of standard department equipment is required
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, public and other employees.
